Visit from Chinese local government

MK:Smart Chinese visitors Electric Bus, 19 Aug 2015

MK’s wirelessly charged Electric Bus collects our visitors from The Open University campus.

Today the MK:Smart team were joined by visitors from Jinjiang Municipal People’s Government at The Open University. They were keen to form a relationship with members of Milton Keynes Council, including Council Leader, Peter Marland.

The visit attracted attention from local news team, BBC Look East

Mr Marland welcomed our guests who included Mr Xu Hongcheng, Executive Vice Mayor of Jinjiang. Leader of the MK:Smart Data workstream, Mathieu d’Aquin presented the capacity of the MK Data Hub for curating city data in order to inform city solutions which will ensure that Milton Keynes is sustainable, while Geoff Snelson, Director of Strategy at Milton Keynes Council was particularly interested in highlighting the innovative technology being used to address our city’s challenges, such as the novel sensor networks deployed in MK to gauge parking availability.

During their visit, members of Jinjiang’s government also experienced Milton Keynes’ wireless charging electric bus, which collected them from The Open University, and visited the developers of MK’s driverless cars at the Transport Systems Catapult.
