It’s a MOOC – a massive open online course – which means it’s free and open to all. The course runs over 6 weeks, 3 hours per week, but its flexible learning so you can study when you want. Eight thousand people from over 40 countries joined the first presentation in autumn 2015. Our learners range from people new to the topic learning for personal interest through to those who want to learn for continuing professional development in local government, business and the community sector.
The course is designed to give you the knowledge, skills and tools to co-create a smart city project for your city or community. During the course you’ll explore what it’s like to live in a smart city, considering the role of design, systems thinking, living labs, open data, crowdsourcing, finance, business models and standards. You’ll also join global debates on the challenges of privacy, ethics and security and weigh up the value of different approaches to smart leadership, partnerships, strategy and metrics.
